The Waldbühne open-air stage mixes elements of an amphitheater and a circus: The white pointed roofs of the stage rise out of the treetops wings, and up to 22,000 spectators crowd into the lightly sloping rows. In 1965, the Rolling Stones came to Berlin for the first time to play their music, but the fans found the concert too short. As the crowd called for encores, the lights were simply switched off and violence broke out: The open-air stage was smashed to pieces and it took a long time until another concert was held there. Today, as one of the most beautiful open-air stages in Europe, it attracts global stars and world-class orchestras.
