A true piece of Berlin culinary history is located on Bleibtreustraße: When this house caught on fire in a bombing attack during World War II, the fire department initially didn’t want to help because there were too many fires to fight. In his desperation, the master butcher promised a huge 66-gallon cauldron of sausage soup as a reward, and 40 men immediately leapt forward and put out the fire. Although the restaurant now specializes in dishes from Southern Germany such as Spätzle, Maultaschen, and Schnitzel, the soups always have a place of honor on the menu.
