The Barcelona Pavilion is a reconstruction of the Weimar Republic’s contribution to the 1929 International Exhibition. Built in 1986 at the original location at the base of Montjuïc, its light, non-load bearing walls and large expanses of glass embody two of Mies van der Rohe’s design principles: floating room and free plan. Specially designed for the Barcelona Pavilion, the Barcelona chair made of curved stainless steel and leather cushions became famous in its own right.
