Nine years ago, Peter Kycelt was the first to bring Vienna’s coffeehouse culture to Shanghai, with his Vienna Melange, Einspänner (mocha with whipped cream), Kaiserschmarrn (a crumbled pancake dusted with sugar), and goulash. He selected a small building on the quiet Shaoxing Road for his café. Wood paneling, rustic wallpaper, soft lighting, the clatter of coffee cups, fresh cheesecake, or Bundt cake help harried urbanites to relax and immerse themselves in another time and place.
