Local before arrival
Amsterdam’s favorite place to celebrate is on the water. Prinsengracht canal has proven to be quite the party area. Every year on April 30th, the day the Queen’s birthday is officially celebrated, the canal is decorated in orange, the color of the royal house. During the Gay Pride Canal Parade, pink sets the tone. In August, the atmosphere is more contemplative for the classical Prinsengracht concert held on a floating stage. And when the water freezes, the canal transforms itself into an ice skating paradise.
