At the end of Fifth Avenue, this 9.75-acre park is one of the most popular in the city. Folk singers and beat poets gathered here in the ’60s, today you’ll see more students (many of the surrounding buildings belong to New York University), street artists, people playing chess and musicians – especially around the fountain. The famed arch, built at the end of the 19th century, was modelled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
