Known for its cupcakes, the Magnolia Bakery owes its fame in large part to Carrie and Miranda from “Sex and the City,” who once sat on a bench in front of the store and discussed their love lives while snacking on pink treats. The fans of these sweet miniature cakes topped with buttercream icing are so numerous that on weekends they stand in long lines in front of the café’s flagship store on Bleecker Street. But if you care more for flavor than celebrity, skip the main bakery and head for one of the four Manhattan branches.
