The Viktualienmarkt started out in 1807 as an herbal market, but by now has developed into a steady market for groceries, for “Viktualien” (victuals) means just that. Bavarian and exotic specialties compete for your attention at the countless booths. Some of the tasty tidbits you can even eat right on the spot: the typical “Leberkäs-Semmel” (liver-loaf roll) with sweet mustard doesn’t taste as good anywhere else.
