Local before arrival
The Serpentine Gallery is one of London’s best loved modern and contemporary art galleries. Exhibitions by artists including Jeff Koons, Wolfgang Tillmans and Richard Hamilton draw up to 800,000 visitors a year. Every summer the gallery offers leading architects who have yet to complete projects in Great Britain an opportunity to construct a pavilion in the grounds. In the footsteps of SANAA, Jean Nouvel and Oscar Niemeyer, Peter Zumthor is to have this honour in 2011.
