Leighton House, designed by George Aitchison, was home and workshop for the leading Victorian artist, Lord Frederic Leighton (1830–1896). Over the course of 30 years he created a private palace of art right here in his own home. The Arab Hall, decorated with over a thousand Islamic tiles reflect the oriental influences to be found in Leighton’s works and is one of the highlights of the house. On the first floor, the artist’s former studio can now be visited.
