Believe it or not, the “Four Pauls” are actually four charming young women, who bought this 1918 shop determined to breathe smart new life into neglected vintage fashion. Unabashedly anachronistic, they use antique tools (including “the conformateur,” a steampunk fitting device) to handcraft bespoke hats in beaver, rabbit, or Montecristi straw for their most discerning customers (President Obama is one). A new hat “opens up possibilities,” says one Paul. “You stand up taller.”
