Nearly 65 years after being severely damaged in World War II, the Neues Museum reopened in 2009. David Chipperfield restored this 19th-century Stüler building, reconstructing parts of the original interior architecture and adding modern elements, such as the central staircase. The over 220,000 sq. ft. building brings together the Museum of Pre- and Early History and the Egyptian Museum—including its most famous exhibit, the bust of Nefertiti.
