In the past, only a couple of small seafood shacks lined what used to be a narrow stretch of beach. Today, more than six miles of beach form a unique space for recreation. The four steel-and-glass cubes, piled on top of each other in seemingly random fashion, were created by Rebecca Horn, a German artist, sculptor, and filmmaker. Her 1992 sculpture can be interpreted as an homage to these seafood shacks, an old lighthouse, and the fishing tradition of adjacent La Barceloneta.
