Completed in 2009, the new building of the main library of Humboldt-Universität is generously proportioned in every aspect. In his geometric design inspired by classic modern architecture, Max Dudler combines workspaces and media rooms, a café, an auditorium, and the main computer and media center, in addition to the library with its roughly 2.5 million volumes. The heart of the building is the terraced reading room extending across all five levels of the open stacks that is lit by an enormous glass roof.
