The oldest building in the city, the al Fahidi Fort, was built in 1787 and today houses the Dubai Museum, the perfect place to gain an insight of the almost forgotten, traditional lifestyle of the natives, and a wonderful contrast to the glamour of the city. The interactive exhibition provides information about the pearl fishery as well as about Bedouin culture. The visit is best paired with a walk to the Bastakiya Quarter, where good and affordable restaurants are in abundance.
