Local before arrival
The era of the funicular may be well and truly over, but it’s still fun to be carried by cable car halfway up the mountain to Wielandshöhe and its eponymous restaurant – especially when Vincent Klink is in charge. With the esteemed Klink – he of the Michelin-stars, television shows, cook books and culinary literature – everything is unique, and Wielandshoehe is no exception. If the restaurant is open he’s there, and over dessert will leave the kitchen to chat with guests. The food is of course excellent, but it’s only part of the theatre. The whole experience is charming, and reservations essential.
