Palais Pannwitz could supply enough material for an entire television series: At the end of World War II, for example, a quick-witted housekeeper saved the house from being looted by Soviet troops when she quickly raised the flag of Yugoslavia—an allied country—in the garden. After a great deal of back and forth over the years, Karl Lagerfeld helped restore the villa to new glory in the style of the Italian Renaissance in the 1990s.
