Sant’Ambrogio is one of the most fascinating churches from the Lombard Romanesque period. After Saint Ambrose had the bones of two martyrs brought here to the elation of the faithful, the church was dedicated in 386. The patron saint of Milan later arranged to be laid to rest here; today, his tomb is marked by a magnificent golden altar. If nothing else, take the time to see the mosaics from the 5th century located in the Chapel San Vittore in Ciel d’Oro!
