Local before arrival
The Rockbund Art Museum for contemporary art opened just in time for Expo 2010. The historic colonial building was restored by David Chipperfield Architects. The stairway retains the style of the ’30s while the generously proportioned exhibition spaces and the high, bright atrium have a modern minimalist design. Director Larys Frogier rounds out the fascinating exhibitions with a varied accompanying program including presentations, discussions, and guided tours to the artists’ works.
