Leo Castelli, patriarch of the international art scene, provided the inspiration for Philipp Pflug's opening exhibition. Just as Castelli did when he opened his eponymous New York gallery in February 1957, the ambitious, well-connected Pflug launched his space with a group exhibition of eleven artists, titled “First Exhibition.” Since then, young, contemporary work has been shown at this venue, which is located diagonally opposite the Museum of Modern Art.
