Local before arrival
Hiding in gritty SoMa is this gem of a bar, serving unorthodox cocktails in a sumptuous setting. The lounge design blends steampunk copper sculptures, Victorian furniture, and Art Deco murals, and the downstairs club has a tremendous sound system and an eclectic, attractive crowd. It’s never boring—there’s even a free photo booth and a live trapeze artist. The house drink is the “Ruffian 1975,” but if Pooky is behind the bar, ask her to make you a “Garden Variety.”
