The small but quite lively El Museo del Barrio presents cool modern and urban pop art, including astonishing work from street artists. Spawned from an initiative of Puerto Rican and African American parents to help their children get an education that actually acknowledges their cultural heritages, it is now the preeminent forum and resource in the USA dedicated to Caribbean, Latino, and South American art. The museum cares for a diverse, 6,500-object permanent collection and focuses on modern, urban art forms.
