“The memory of cinema” as the French Film Institute Cinémathèque française is also known, enjoys role-model status for film preservation. The building, designed by Frank O. Gehry, originally contained the American Culture Institute, but since 2005 the deconstructivist edifice has been home to a collection of more than 40,000 films. The Parisian Atelier de l’Île has carefully integrated new archive rooms, a media library, and four cinema theatres into Gehry’s building.
