The new Barbican Foodhall grew out of what used to be the Barbican café, as the old restaurant became the Barbican Lounge. One of the goals of the creative minds at SHH was to celebrate underappreciated beauty in existing architecture, so they exposed the concrete ceilings and made use of brick tiles in the interior, the same as those on the outer paths of the facility. The furniture, a mix of custom-made and vintage pieces, has been kept elegantly simple.
