A cafe with a queue out the front is always a good sign, and at Unbehaun Eis there’s always a queue. Don’t be deterred! This is a favorite spot for locals, some of whom are third-generation customers. Once inside your first choice is how much ice-cream you want (it’s sold by the cup), then it’s time to pick flavors: there are five kinds, all using the same 100-year-old preservative-free recipe. Next, the ice-cream is layered into your cup using a special spatula. You’ll want to stick around and do some people watching while you eat – Unbehaun Eis has a lovely old-world interior, and a clientele who would not look out of place in a Wes Anderson movie. Tip: say yes to cream on top – it’s a delicious addition that somehow makes the whole glorious thing taste better.
