Famous for his unusual fabric creations and strange contouring patterns, it would only be fitting that the experimental Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake would appoint Frank O. Gehry and Gordon Kipping to unleash his creative genius on his flagship store in TriBeCa. From the 25-foot-high titanium twisting column, aptly named “The Tornado,” to the glass floors looking into the private showroom downstairs, there is always a sense of playfulness and discovery in this renovated landmark building.
