From 1970 to 2000, architect Hermann Czech designed many restaurants and hot spots that are favorites in artistic and creative circles. Despite their differences, the Kleines Café, the Gasthaus Pöschl, and the Salzamt have one thing in common: They share a sophisticated design that seems to consist of random elements. From the inconspicuous way the different levels for seating and standing areas are balanced in the Kleines Café to the sliding windows that can be opened with a single finger in the Salzamt—Czech carefully plans every tiny detail.
