Even if Peter Paul Rubens wasn’t born in Antwerp, the Baroque painter has become more-or-less the icon of the city. After all, he did spend most of his life here, in this very house, in fact, which he commissioned to be built modelled after an Italian palazzo in 1610. He resided here until his passing in 1640. Today it serves as a museum for his work, as well as the work of some of his contemporaries.
