This 364 ft. arch at the end of the Voie Triomphale was initiated by President Mitterrand to celebrate the bicentennial of the French Revolution. The severe geometry of the cube, designed by Johan Otto von Spreckelsen and clad with glass and marble, is softened by the sailshaped roof over the esplanade. The side walls house offices, and the upper floors offer impressive views of Paris and La Défense, symbolizing the architect’s intentions to create a vision of the future.
