The additional cavity created during the construction of the Rheinufertunnel was expanded in 2006 by the architectural office Fritschi/Stahl/Baum into an 888-square-meter, 140-meter-long exhibition area. The underground museum can be reached via a staircase or by elevator and shows mainly contemporary works by young artists from the fields of sculpture, painting, photography, as well as video and installation art. The promotion of young artists such as graduates of the Düsseldorf Art Academy or winners of the Düsseldorf Art Prize, as well as international newcomers, is a special concern of KIT.
