Every Wednesday and Saturday is market day in Schöneberg, where fruit and vegetable sellers outbid each other with their special offers on Winterfeldtplatz. You’ll find antipasti, bread, snacks, flowers, and bric-a-brac, and the buyers are just as colorful: local celebrities, intellectuals, immigrants, young and old, all out shopping side by side. But this market isn’t a new invention: This site next to the Catholic Church of St. Matthias was already a place for haggling and dealing back in the 19th century.
