The only things taking off at Tempelhof airfield these days are kites. The enormous outdoor space has been a public park since 2008. Hard to imagine that in the days of the Berlin Airlift, when the so-called candy bombers supplied West Berlin, planes were taking off and landing here every 90 seconds. You can take a guided tour of the imposing complex of buildings—a typical example of Nazi architecture—or swing by for regular events, like the annual Bread & Butter fashion show.
