Local before arrival
A 541-foot chimney crowns the first public museum for contemporary art in mainland China. This former power plant near the Huangpu River is now named the Power Station of Art. It opened in the fall of 2012 to mark the 9th Shanghai Biennale with an exhibition of pieces from the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Spectacular art projects are planned for the immense exhibition space on the former grounds of the World Expo.
