Shanghai once had a legendary jazz scene. The seaport’s inhabitants threw wild, boisterous parties in the Golden Age of the 1930s. Dancing and entertainment drew people out of their homes until the Cultural Revolution put an end to frivolous pleasures and silenced the music. The JZ Club has preserved echo of this vanished era. Because the club also houses the JZ School, a new generation of jazz and swing fans are kicking up their heels to their heart’s content.
