In the spring, this suburb is a popular destination for residents of Rome who want to get away from the city for an afternoon and walk on the beach. In the summer, however, it is overcrowded because private beaches are in high demand. Along Lido di Ostia, you can expect all the loungers and umbrellas to be taken by the afternoon. Ostia does have beaches without swimming facilities, as well as restaurants, ice cream parlors, and dance clubs along the shore.
