NAVIGLI
PHOTOS VIDEO MAPS

Developed beginning in the 13th century, the navigli are what remains of a network of canals that connected Milan to the Mediterranean via the Po river. The canals took on a crucial role as a means of communication and trade and were largely responsible for the city’s increase in importance. With its canals, cast-iron bridges, and restaurants, the area is now a favorite destination for night owls and pedestrians, who stroll through the flea market on Saturdays.
