This museum on Jakobsplatz is the perfect place to get to know Munich. Athens on the Isar, Capital of the Movement, Metropolis with Heart—the exhibition “Typically Munich” traces the turbulent history of the city and doesn’t shy away from its clichés. The permanent exhibition “National Socialism in Munich” gives the most comprehensive overview yet of the city’s darkest chapter. Also worth seeing are the portrait collection and the film museum, which presents excellent film series.
