Architects Paolo Portoghesi, Vittorio Gigliotti, and Sami Mousawi designed this mosque and the adjoining Islamic cultural center. Opened in 1995, the Moschea di Roma was the largest mosque in Europe for many years. Its highest and stylistically most striking element is the vaulted roof in the prayer hall, inspired by the domes of the great mosques of Córdoba and Tlemcen. The architects drew inspiration from many sources for the mosque’s construction materials and the gardens.
