Local before arrival
There is plenty of art at this hybrid gallery/club, from paintings and sculpture to the “permanent collection,” which includes a Burberry plaid rifle and a golden Mickey Mouse on a crucifix. Daytime is casual, with poetry readings and films. But at night, people come for the party—Madrone is packed with the young, hip, and good-looking, and the atmosphere on the dance floor ranges from flirtatious to downright lustful. Motown Monday is a sweaty, funky, tipsy good old time.
