In 2013, Heiner Harhues came up with the idea of selling fish rolls in Hamburg’s red light district—until that point, they had only been available at the fish market. Trained as a shipbuilder, Harhues built his mini snack bar for smoked meat and fish products himself. The native of East Frisia used old boards from the Millerntor Stadium to build the counter and repurposed doors from the demolished Erotic Art Museum for the cashier’s counter. The result is full of local charm. Of course, the fish comes fresh from a small store on Große Elbstraße.
