When Hotel Fasano opened on the beach of Ipanema in 2007, it set an entirely new standard for luxury hotels in Brazil thanks to its intelligent and understated ambience. Designer Philippe Starck decided to go with a retro-chic feel reminiscent of the 1950s and 60s, when Rio de Janeiro was in the midst of its dazzling bossa nova heyday. He selected—among others—pieces of furniture from Brazilian designers of Studio Branco&Preto, while the Diz armchairs with their organic curves come from Sergio Rodrigues.
