Local before arrival
Named after a famous Verdi opera, this historic restaurant—just a stone’s throw from Quadrilatero della Moda, the Cathedral and the Scala—is the meeting place for all sorts of characters. Verdi himself resided in the Grand Hotel et de Milan, where Don Carlos is housed, for nearly 20 years. The calm and elegant space decorated with original artworks from the Scala Museum is notoriously private. Head chef Gangemi puts a creative spin on simple, traditional north Italian dishes here. The vaulted wine cellar holds more than 200 different bottles, though the real treasure is perhaps the piece of wall erected around 250 BC.
