Opened in 1995 after ten years of construction, Cité de la Musique, the brainchild of architect Christian de Portzamparc, is a postmodern city whose shapes reflect the richness of music. Clustered around a concert hall are a conservatory, studios, a media library, as well as a museum where sound samples and 800 instruments from the Renaissance until today, including pieces from legendary instrument makers and musicians, make music come alive.
