It all began in 1810 with the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The public festivities with parades, dancing, and horse racing found great favor among the population—this was the birth of the largest fair in the world: Oktoberfest. Enthroned above it all stands the Bavaria, a monumental statue whose hollow interior you can climb by spiral staircase, backed by the Ruhmeshalle (“Hall of Glory”). Every visitor to Munich should pay a visit to “Miss Bavaria.”
