Local before arrival
If you walk around the castle, you immediately understand why the imposing building and the extensive park are a popular place to go. Separated only by the Rheingaustrasse, which is lined with poplars to form an avenue, the estate faces the Rhine, which is over 300 meters wide at this point. Amazing is the uniform-looking building architecture. A look back into the history reveals further more a unplanned mix. Starting with just a garden house end of the 17th century to the last restored in the 80s, baroque splendor. Today, it hosts the State Office for the Preservation of Historic Monuments. Visitors can enjoy food and drinks in in a "royal" atmosphere at restaurant „Schönhauser“. The park evites to relax or entertainment, e.g. at the annual Whitsun tournament of the international dressage and showjumping elite.
