With its crystal-clear water and crashing waves, this is a great beach for surfing and swimming. As a backdrop: the Atlantic Forest! Given its status as a nature reserve, the beach is clean and diverse flora and fauna have thrived. A small beach stand sells healthy sandwiches and açaí juice—a favorite amongst surfers. The Surf Bus, which even has room for surfboards, departs from the Largo do Machado subway station and drives through the Zona Sul (www.surfbus.com.br).
