“Gluten-free” has been a foreign concept to the French for quite some time. But Helmut Newcake aims to prove that the delicate tarte au citron and financiers can be made without gluten, and still taste great. His tiny café with an in-house bakery is always packed, especially in the afternoon. Coffee, Clipper Teas, and homemade soymilk are served up in vintage dishware alongside the plethora of sweets. After the kaffeeklatsch, pick up some pasta, flour, or fresh bread—all gluten-free, of course!
