Local before arrival
It’s all about the location! This fort, constructed in the 19th century, has spectacular views of Copacabana on the one side and Ipanema, Leblon, and the point of Arpoador on the other. Once a stronghold against enemy ships, it's now a recreation and cultural hub. The on-site military museum has cafés and restaurants. Our tip: After touring the fort, head to the rocks on Apoador and enjoy the sunset with the Cariocas.
