Local before arrival
Lord Norman Foster’s Philological Library became a new Free University landmark. The biomorphic shape of the building’s aluminum and glass shell resembles a human brain, and like its natural counterpart, its interior is divided into two sections, each containing three serpentine floors. Like other buildings by Foster, the library—opened in 2005— features an energy-efficient climate control concept.
