The Hermitage Amsterdam is a dependency of the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg. The historic tie between the two cities can be traced back to Russian Czar Peter the Great’s visit to Holland. The Hermitage Amsterdam is beautifully located on the eastern bank of the river Amstel. Housed in a former nursing home, following an extensive renovation the museum now offers changing exhibitions, regular concerts, and an excellent restaurant in the interior courtyard.
